Oakland A’s at Los Angeles Angels 3:35 PM ET

    Los Angeles Angels (Escobar) -145

Streaks are, both on and against, are key ingredients to success in baseball. This matchup has its share of streaks and all point to one side. The Angels have won the last two games on this series and will be looking for the series win on Sunday after the A’s took the first meeting by a run. Los Angeles is hitting .317 as a team on the season while the pitching has been even better with a 2.00 ERA while allowing more than three runs only once. The Angels have won 19 of their last 24 games at home.

While Joe Blanton has pitched well enough to pick up a win against Los Angeles, it simply has not happened. Blanton is 0-6 in his seven career starts against the Angels and he struggled last season, going 0-3 with a 5.16 ERA and 1.76 WHIP. He did not fare well in his first start this season, allowing four runs on six innings against Seattle, his first career loss against the Mariners nine starts. While that streak was reversed, don’t expect this one to be as the Angels have won seven of the last nine in this series.

The Angels counter with Kelvim Escobar who won his season debut 4-1 over Texas on Tuesday, allowing three runs and three hits in 5.1 innings. His control was off but that is nothing new. Over his last four starts against the A’s, Escobar has posted a solid 2.77 ERA with all four outings being quality starts. He has not lost to Oakland since 2004. Since the end of last season, Escobar has looked excellent. The was hit hard three times against top offenses Boston, New York and Texas but in the other 13 starts has posted a 2.17 ERA.

The Angels have the best record in baseball and even though it’s early, they are a team to keep riding. Last season’s finish adds to that and sets up a solid situation. Play on any team after a win in their first 12 games of the season, after closing out last season with 26 or more wins in their last 40 games. This situation is 116-52 against the moneyline (69 percent) since 1997 with the average run differential being +1.4 rpg. Los Angeles keeps in going on Sunday as it takes the series against Oakland. Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants 4:05 PM ET

    San Francisco Giants (Zito) -140

The Giants lost the first two games of a three-game series to the Padres earlier this week but salvaged the final game, 5-3. Can they get a "repeat performance" here, with their "$126 million man" on the hill. Barry Zito was not sharp in a 7-0 Tuesday loss to the Padres but I'll give him a shot here vs the Dodgers. LA counters with Randy Wolf and he wasn't all that good in his Dodger debut at Milwaukee (Tuesday). Wolf's had trouble staying healthy in recent years, making 23 starts in 2004 and just a combined 25 starts in '05 and '06. The Phils went 16-9 in those 25 starts but Wolf 's ERA was 4.87. Also note his road ERA these last two years. Ignore the fact that Philly went 6-1 in his road starts last year, because his road ERA was 6.28. In six road starts in 2005, his ERA was 5.60 (team was 3-3). Look for the Giants to get to Wolf and for Zito to pitch well enough for the Giants to end a seven-game home losing streak to the hated Dodgers. Go with San Fran. Play San Francisco Giants
