Temple Owls vs. St. Joe’s Hawks 9:00 PM ET

    St. Joe’s Hawks -3 -105

One of the common adages is that it’s difficult for a team to beat another team three times in the same season. While this does hold true at times, one needs to look at the first two matchups and see if there is any indication as to why that losing team won’t lose again. In this case, the first two meetings were not even close so there is no reason to believe that the Hawks cannot take Temple behind the woodshed yet again. It’s been a down year for the Owls while St. Joe’s still has some postseason hopes, albeit the NIT.

The Hawks won the first two meetings by 13 and 16 points. That does not tell the whole story however as St. Joe’s completely dominated both games. The Hawks shot 59.2 percent from the floor including 53.8 percent from behind the arc in both contests while Temple managed only 43.2 percent shooting including 28.3 percent from long range. St. Joe’s also outshot the Owls from the charity stripe 85.7 percent to 68.3 percent. This gives an indication of big time matchup advantages for the Hawks and they will take advantage again.

Temple comes in with losses in five of its last six games with nothing going right for the Owls. Over those six games, Temple shot 42.7 percent from the floor while the defense allowed 48 percent shooting. Free throw shooting has been just as bad. St. Joe’s enters this game on a three-game losing streak as the defense, which is the cornerstone, was lit up in two of those three games. Call it an aberration however as in six games prior to that where it went 5-1, the defense allowed only 40.6 percent from the field.

Another huge edge for the Hawks is rebounding as Temple is -4.2 rpg in margin this season while St. Joe’s is +3.9 rpg in margin. Temple has been outrebounded in six of its last seven games. Meanwhile, the Hawks have turned into a strong rebounding team, with a plus margin in 23 of 30 games. St. Joe’s has won the rebounding battle by double digits six times. Even when Temple was up to par with the Hawks, St. Joseph still dominated. The Hawks have now won three in a row versus the Owls and 11 of the last 12 in this series. Play St. Joe’s Hawks 1.5 Units

SMU Mustangs vs. Southern Miss Golden Eagles 3:15 PM ET

Southern Miss Golden Eagles -4.5 -105

Keep Larry Eustachy away from the sorority/fraternity parties and he's one heckuva of coach. Eustachy went 11-17 in his first year, 10-21 last year but this year he's led the Golden Eagles to a 19-10 mark. Led by freshman guards Wise (17.6), Stone (10.3-5.4) and Hill (7.6) plus sophomores Craft (8.8) and Beasley (9.8), Southern Miss has quite a perimeter game. The 6-8 Stephens (4.5-4.3) and the 7-0 Bain (3.8-5.2) don't score much but give the team some bulk inside. SMU was just 3-13 in C-USA this year (Southern Miss was 9-7) and in the teams' lone meeting this year, lost at home to the Golden Eagles by one point. The Mustangs have a stronger inside game with the 6-9 Ofoegbu (14.5-7.6), the 6-6 Pearson (9.5-6.1) and the 6-11 Rackauskas (7.9-5.7). SMU is weak in the backcourt and with Roberts (8.8) questionable with a knee injury (did not play in SMU's last game), the Mustangs are left with only Killen (7.9) on the perimeter since 6-5 swingman Epps (8.9) was dismissed from the team in late February. SMU enters this game losers of EIGHT of its last nine games. SMU is 2-11 SU as an underdog TY and are not getting very many points here, so losing but covering is not likely. As for Southern Miss, the team is 9-1 SU and ATS as favorite in 2006-07. Take Southern Mississippi
