The trade deadline has finally come and go and after all the trade rumors of moving their star players Jason Kidd and Vince Carter, the New Jersey Nets have rebounded from a skid and their leading scorer Vince Carter has played outstanding basketball scoring 40-points in his two out of his last 3 games. Tonight the Nets will host a Washington team battling injuries and trying to avoid its longest losing streak in three months.Carter had 40 points, nine rebounds and eight assists Sunday to lead the Nets to a 101-92 win over the New York Knicks. He was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line and hit two long 3-pointers early in the second half to spark New Jersey to win its second consecutive game after dropping three straight. Carter also repeated the same type of performance in a 105-93 overtime win against the Wizards on Nov. 12th scoring 34 points and going 5-of-8 from 3-point range that included a three that forced overtime. New Jersey has won four of the last five meetings with Washington and 10 of it's last 11 at home. Due to injuries of Jamerson and Caron Butler, Washington and it's leading scorer are struggling of late and they shot just 35.1 percent in the Nov. 12 loss to New Jersey with Gilbert Arenas scoring 25 points but going 6-of-23 from the field. Arenas is scoring only 17.4 per game on 34.1 percent shooting in 12 career contests against the Nets which is his worst mark against any opponent. Sunday, Gilbert shot 4-of-22 and went 1-of-11 from beyond the arc as the Wizards lost 98-94 to Minnesota. In that game DeShawn Stevenson scored 21 points and reserve Roger Mason had a season-high 13 points as Washington played without All-Star forward Caron Butler because of back spasms. Caron Butler, the second-leading scorer and rebounder will not play again tonight against New Jersey. Washington just does not match up well against the New Jersey Nets and with injuries to two of their Top Players they have little chance of avoiding their third straight loss as they face the Nets on the road tonight.
