Penn State +4 over Tennessee
The Volunteers (9-3) opened the season with an impressive 35-18 rout, over the-then, highly ranked California Bears - only to struggle over the remainder of the season, versus the quality opponents on the schedule. Junior quarterback Erik Ainge, did go on to finish the season ranked 11th nationally in passing efficiency, but it was a non-consistent running game, and medicore play on the defenive side of the ball, that troubled Tennessee.
The Nittany Lions of Penn State (8-4), continued to play better as the season went on, led by a defense that limited the opposition to 87.8 rushing ypg, and has two of the premier linebackers in the country.....Dan Connor and Paul Posluszny. There's nothing fancy about QB Morelli and the Lion offense, they simply get the job done. We have the better overall team, that played a tougher schedule, in a high profile Bowl Game, getting points.....and that's the way we go, calling for the outright win.
