Great pitching from Pittsburgh gets it done on Wednesday getting us the big dog winner.
Florida – Beckett +110 (3 units) 8:10 pm EST
The Marlins are hot and so is Beckett, who has posted a 3.22 ERA on the season and if it weren’t for 1 bad outing at Wrigley Field, his ERA would be down to 2.70. He is 3-2 since returning from injury on July 1st but his ERA since then is a very impressive 2.52 and that includes the dud against the Cubs. He has faced the Cardinals once this season going 7 innings and allowing just 2 earned runs in getting the win back in late April. Florida has won 12 of their last 15 games and they trail Philadelphia by just 1 game1 for the wild card spot in the NL. The Marlins have taken 9 of the last 14 meetings including 6 of the last 8 at Busch Stadium. Brett Tomko has an ERA of 5.94 since July 1st (5.74 on the season) and while his home ERA is a respectable 3.70, most of that success came early in the season as his ERA at Busch is 5.49 since June 1st covering 5 starts. The Birds are an even .500 since the break and have not fared well against righties on the season, as they are 45-43 –1040. The play of the Marlins has been the best in baseball over the past 2+ weeks and they don’t show any signs of letting up as their young pitching is performing at a very high level while the offense is doing its part I hitting near .300 during this stretch. Beckett should be able overmatch the struggling Tomko and continue his impressive return.
