The Pistons hope to get back on track at home tonight and hand the Trail Blazers their 6th loss in a row while they are at it. Detroit will look to take care of business here before a 4-game road trip that starts in Dallas and continues in Orlando - two of the league's hottest teams - while Portland is beginning a 6-game road trek of their own.
The Pistons saw their 8-game winning streak disappear with a 97-89 defeat to Charlotte on Sunday, a PRO INFO SPORTS STAR SELECTION winner. Some players admitted to over-looking the lowly Bobcats, but their focus should be back here. Detroit is 9-0 SU (+18.2 ppg) & 9-0 ATS (+8.9 ppg) as a home favorite of less than 12 points off a SU loss that ended a winning streak of at least 5 games. Also, rested teams are 5-0 SU (+17 ppg) & 5-0 ATS (+12 ppg) off a SU loss that ended a winning streak of 5+ games vs. a Trailblazers team coming off less than 2 days rest.
Speaking of Portland, after some scrappy play early in the season, they are sinking fast. Now comes their longest road trip of the season. In nine days, the Blazers also will play Milwaukee, Indiana, Toronto, Philadelphia and Memphis. "It's going to be a tough road trip," forward Zach Randolph said, obviously seeing the writing on the wall. They have a game tomorrow night as they continue this rugged trip, which is not good news for the Blazers. They are a horrific 0-11 SU (-22.7 ppg) & 0-11 ATS (-13.2 ppg) on the road when not getting 14+ points before a game without rest. The Pistons are 5-1 (+14.8 ppg) & 5-0 ATS (+7.7 ppg) in the reverse role when not favored by 13+ points, creating a nice dichotomy of angles.
Our database research also reveals that Portland is 0-6 SU (-10.7 ppg) & 0-6 ATS (-6.2 ppg) as a rested underdog when starting a road trip of 5+ games since 1997, and since March of 2005, they are 0-5 SU (-27 ppg) & 0-5 ATS (-14.4 ppg) as a double-digit road underdog off 2 home SU losses. Now that they aren’t even able to buy a victory at home, they will have no confidence here, and will be blown out by a Pistons team looking for a solid victory.
