Oakland – Hudson –110 (3 Units)
Don’t let Tim Hudson’s 9-4 record fool you as he has pitched brilliantly and his numbers keep getting better. Oakland is 18-5 +925 in his 23 starts on the season including a 12-1 +1025 record at home. He has faced the Yankees twice already this season back to back starts in early May. Granted they were both against Jeff Weaver but Hudson pitched well enough to win against any pitcher. He went 16 innings allowing just 3 earned runs (1.71 ERA) and only 8 hits. He is allowing batters a paltry .218 BA against him that has shown in his WHIP, which has gotten to the point of ridiculous at 1.05. His 2.60 ERA is good for 3rd in the American League behind Loaiza and Martinez. Oakland continues to dominate at home with their 37-18 record, best in the AL. They have taken 4 of the 6 meetings against New York this year and are 9-3 against the East. Mussina is sill pitching well but he has steadily decreased and the season has progressed. His ERA numbers from April – July have gone up each month (1.70, 3.43, 3.90, 4.78) as well as his BAA (.200, .223, .259, .260). The Yankees are 13-7 in his starts but that was after winning the first 7 of the season. They have lost his last 3 road starts and 4 of the last 5. Mussina’s ERA in his last 5 road games is a hefty 6.30. New York is 14-13 -910 against the AL West and surprisingly, they are just 5-6 as underdogs this season. We see the Hudson success continuing at home for the A’s while the Mussina road woes continue as well. A very nice short price here for Oakland who will take the first game of this series.
