[The above chart shows the Jets being credited with an "Intangible" (AAI). The following would be an example of a brief explanation that would be included; for more info regarding "Intangibles and Adjustments", see the paragraph footnoted* near the bottom of the page. The following example actually happened in 1984].

*Word is the Jets organization was humiliated last year when (trailing 42-14 with virtually no time left in the game) the Bucs HC John Mckay ordered his special teams to allow New York to run back the kick off so that Tampa Bay RB Ricky Bell could carry the ball one more time for an NFL Record.

Mckay was fined by the NFL for the ordeal last season, but the real story is the humiliation and the fact that this time around they're playing at Shea Stadium. Formulas call for 1* Consensus on the Bucs, but obviously the extenuating cirstumstances call for an Intangible Adjustment. In fact, we'll call this one worthy of a rare 2-unit adjustment.

    ----------------------
    Dave's Pro Selections:
    ----------------------

[These simply put are my favorite selections. My best plays. They are the games I am most comfortable with. Often they will mirror the formulas. If you just don't like the whole slate of action offered by the formulas, here's where to find the answer to the question: "Dave, what's your best games? What would YOU play?"]

    ----------------------------------
    NCAA College Football ASR Formula:
    ----------------------------------

[The following College ASR Formula Ratings are from last season. The ASR's exploit the lack of parity in College Football. In this example the bottom 15 teams finished 4-8 ATS (three were Idle) on November 2nd. Comparing the bottom 15 to the top 15 we found two mismatches:

    Boise St (-34) 58, UTEP 3
    Maryland (-14) 59, N. CAROLINA 7

As you can see, the ASR nailed it with these two games on November 2nd. That is precisely what the ASR's are designed to do. Last year the ASR's were listed in alphabetical order. This year they will be listed in numerically descending order.

    ------------------------
    Dave's College Overview:
    ------------------------

[A general synopsis of observations regarding the College Schedule. Most notably it will contain info and commentary on the College ASR's (average spread ratings) along with any other notable newsbreakers or insights.

Selections will be considerably fewer this season as the bulk of my focus will be on the Pros. For the most part I will allow the ASR's to carry the weight of the College arena this season. Will also keep you updated on my College Rushing Formula development that I'll be working on as the season progresses.

The idea with the ASR's is to simply go against the really bad teams. Going against the bottom five, 10, or even fifteen--no more--should prove a profitable venture. Also look for mismatches. If a team in the top 15 is playing a team in the bottom 15, that's a mismatch; especially if the top team is a large favorite, like 2 TD's or more. Be careful not to use the ASR's to go "with" the top rated teams--unless they are in a mismatch situation.

The idea is to find really BAD teams and go against them--exploiting the lack of parity in College ball. The difference is that really good teams will still have bad days (and you lose), but really bad teams may not have ANY good days (and you win). That's human factor logic.]

*NFL Adjustments and Intangibles (AAI): Each Formula and/or System credits its play 1 or 2 units depending on strict, objective criteria which is clear cut (black and white). The NFL Adjustments and Intangibles (AAI) also credits its play 1 or 2 units. However, the AAI is subjective and is used with discretion. AAI games will be footnoted* with an appropriate explanation that should convincingly validate the reason for the adjustment--not so much as to reflect an opinion that would be questionable but rather one that would be wholely viable to the knowledgeable masses.

Examples for the intangible adjustments would be: (a.) A "key" injury (Farve out, some rookie in); (b.) An adjustment due to an "exceptionally" good or bad team, e.g., the '99 Rams, '02 Bengals, etc.; (c.) Be advised that there will be times when this is a grey area, which is why every attempt will be made to keep the adjustments to an absolute minimum, and they will be backed by a reasonable explanation.

The purpose of the AAI is ultimately to show a better profit. Obviously, if the AAI games did not figure to be a positive expectation, then they would be pointless. Like the Formulas and Systems they will have their own column, and their records will be kept individually.

**NOTE: For the sake of simplicity, all plays will be judged according to the line in the Thursday Edition of the USA Today (a mid-week line), which is the line that will be sent out with the Spread Report on Thursdays. It is understood that lines will vary among subscribers, books, monitoring services, etc. Be smart, shop around if possible.

If you are unable to shop around, please keep in mind that for every time your Sunday morning line is not as good as what was sent out in the SRO, more than likely there will be an equal number of times that you will receive a better line. POINT: For the sake of simplicity, all plays will be judged according to the line in the Thursday Edition of the USA Today.
