  • Detroit Tigers @ Boston Red Sox

Part two of a likely MLB mismatch tonight when the Boston Red Sox play the second of a two game set against the woeful Detroit Tigers. While we expect the Red Sox to cover the runs line again tonight we're not keen to lay the -155 and will instead recommend the Over.

Boston go for their fourth straight win having taken both games against the Blue Jays at the weekend and routing the Tigers 14-5 last night, pounding out 18 hits including nine doubles. They are a dominant 31-14 at Fenway Park this season and their overall record of 58-40 (.592) is good for second place in the AL East.

While Derek Lowe boasts a 10-4 record it's worth noting his ERA of almost five (4.95). He lost for the first time in two months last Thursday when he lasted just four innings against Toronto and allowed four earned runs. Lowe has received the benefit of some excellent offensive support this season with his six straight wins prior to Thursday coming on the back of the Red Sox scoring (consecutively!) 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and then 10 runs. He is 1-1 in his last three appearances with an ERA of 7.71.

Detroit are the worst team in baseball at 26-71 (.268) and a bankroll-busting -23.5 units. They have lost four straight on the road and are just 14-36 away this season. Tonight's starting pitcher Mike Maroth had nine losses this season before recording his first victory. He has improved since then to 5-13 and his ERA of 5.01 is almost identical to Lowe's.

The Red Sox have beaten the Tigers by two or more runs in all but one of their eight meetings this season and have outscored them by a whopping 44-13 at Fenway Park.

These teams combined for 30 hits, 19 runs and left 32 men on base last night so there is a large margin for error with tonight's total set at 9.5.

The Red Sox have broken out of their brief slump in a big way and we're very confident of these teams combining for a double digit total.

    Recommended Play: Over 9.5 -110

7-4. Nice call on the over!
NSA's NBA Game Of The Year was on Dallas -4.5 on March 31. Orlando won 108-99. It was a cloudy day for Sonny LaFouchi.
