The Padres under Manager Bruce Bochy stand at 56-52, which is good enough to give them a one game lead in the National League West Division. Chris Young gets the nod tonight. The Right-hander is 9-4 with a 3.57 ERA on the season. More recently he is 6-1 with a 3.06 ERA over his last 11 starts. Young gave up one run and seven hits in five innings of a 4-2 victory at Colorado on Saturday. He earned a win in his first career start against the Nationals, allowing two runs and seven hits while striking out nine in six innings of a 5-2 victory on July 8. The Padres look to improve on their five game winning streak versus their opponent tonight.
The Nationals under Hall of Fame Manager Frank Robinson enter this contest at 48-60 out of the National League East Division. They sport a 22-36 record on the Road, and are only 7-12 versus the National League West. Ramon Ortiz takes the mound for the Nationals tonight. The Right-hander stands at 7-9 with a 4.84 ERA this year. He will be looking for his first win in three starts against the Padres. He is 0-2 with a 5.54 ERA against them, and gave up three runs and nine hits in 6 2/3 innings of a 3-2 loss to the Padres on July 7. In Ortiz's nine losses the Nationals have scored a total of 17 runs.

The Red Sox under Manager Terry Francona enter this contest at 62-41 on the season, and hold a 1/2 game lead over the Yankees in the American League East Division. They are coming off of a Home Series loss to the Angels, and have their share of pitching woes. David Wells returns from the DL to make his first start in two months for the Sox tonight. With only two appearances this year, Lefty Boomer holds an 0-1 record with an 8.64 ERA. The Red Sox are a quality team that is 33-15 at Home this season, and they look to get back on track tonight while still in First Place.
The Indians under Manager Eric Wedge lead only the Royals in the American League Central, and they stand at 45-58, which is 24.5 games behind the Tigers. Yesterday they traded Second Baseman Ronnie Belliard to the Cardinals for IF/OF Hector Luna. The Indians have lost 11 of their last 15 games, and traded away several of their higher-priced players in recent weeks, including Closer Bob Wickman and First Baseman Ben Broussard. Paul Byrd gets the nod tonight for the Indians tonight. The Right-hander is 7-6 with a 4.71 ERA on the season. The Indians look to finish out this year by preparing for a hopefully better 2007 season.
