The Twins under Manager Ron Gardenhire trail their opponent today out of the American League Central Division by 8.5 games, and stand at 59-41 on the season. While they are still far behind the Tigers, they have cut their potential Wild Card berth to 1/2 game, down from 11 games back since they have been on a 34-8 winning run lately. The Twins send Francisco Liriano to the mound tonight. The Left-hander is 12-2 with a 1.93 ERA on the season, stellar enough to put himself on the leading edge of Cy Young candidates. The Twins look to improve on their 2-7 record against their Division leader tonight, and have awesome records on their own side including 37-11 at Home, and 9-1 OverAll recently. The only reason this is not a preferred Gold Key Play tonight is that the line is too high to give worthwhile value to our paying Members.
The Tigers under Manager Jim Leyland lead the Major Leagues with a stupendous 68-33 record, a full 35 games above .500. Zach Miner gets the nod on the Road tonight. The Rookie Right-hander has not faired well lately, and has lasted only 6 2/3 combined innings and given up 10 earned runs in losing both of his starts since the All-Star Break. The Tigers gave Miner a five-run lead after one inning Saturday against Oakland, but he surrendered five runs in the top of the second and was pulled after a season-low 2 1/3 innings of a 9-5 loss. While the Tigers must be respected and have virtually every category on the plus-side, they are only 3-9 over their last 12 games at the Twins.
The line overnited at Twins -150 and figures to move up. We'll go with the Home Twins here tonight in a Good Free Play.
