  • Reds activate OF Kearns from DL

CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Reds ended outfielder Austin Kearns' rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A Louisville Wednesday and placed him on the major-league roster.

The team sent outfielder Jason Romano to Louisville to make room.

Kearns is eligible to play Wednesday night against the Colorado Rockies.

Kearns, the regular right fielder, broke a bone in his left forearm April 26 when he was hit by a pitch during a game in Pittsburgh. The Reds placed him on the disabled list two days later.

Kearns hit .357 with two home runs and eight RBI during his eight-game rehabilitation assignment in Louisville.

Romano had gone 1-for-16 in 15 appearances, including one start, for Cincinnati. The Reds claimed him off waivers from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on April 22.

It is the second year in a row that Kearns has been hurt early in the season. He played only 82 games last year because of a shoulder injury.
