    Photos of Katrina over Mississippi

These pictures were made by a man in Magee, MS where the eye of the storm passed thru - what an experience.

Magee is 150 miles North of Waveland, Mississippi where the Hurricane made land fall.

The following picture was taken from the third story balcony of Saint Stanislaus College located next door to Our Lady of the Gulf church in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi on the morning of August 29th, 2005. This is believed to be the initial tidal wave from Hurricane Katrina. The tidal wave was approximately 35 to 40 feet high. When is slammed into the beach front communities of Bay Saint Louis and Waveland Mississippi to completely destroyed 99% of every structure along the beach for 9 miles and over ΒΌ of a mile inland. The destruction only started there. The flooding that continued inland destroyed the contents of all but 35 homes in these two communities of approximately 14,000 people.

This picture was taken from the I-10 overpass after the storm passed facing south toward Waveland. This location is approximately 5 miles from the beach.

Today, 10 months later, approximately 80% of the debris has been removed from the streets (many lots not been touched) and approximately 10% of the homes are habitable

I believe you may be correct Bud. I went through it, and Katrina came through at night. The worst part of it for me was between 3:00 am - 5:00 am. Those photos have way too much daylight in them to be Katrina.

A lot of people's lives changed on that day. I'm back on the coast now and run into people every day who are still in the infant stages of rebuilding their lives, including me.

When the kids and I evacuated late Saturday night, August 27th, to Auburn, we ran into a man in the Red Cross line in Opelika. We got to talking and I found out he was a political figure in Ocean Springs. The rich, poor, and middle class were in the same crisis.

My little girl still tears up from time to time and says she misses the "real Biloxi"...her words...

I am from pascagoula, MS and experienced it myself and I do not think those clouds were from Katrina. THe one shot looking over I-10 is a actual photo though.
