Would anyone have any tips or suggestions when playing Caribbean Poker in the casinos? I normally bet on anything with a pair or better regardless of the dealer's upcard. Is this a good strategy or should the value of the dealer's upcard prevent a particular bet?

Dealers upcard has a lot to do with it you should pay attention to it. As far as pairs go I see people play 2's 3's and 4's. Your doubling you bet that the dealer just has ace/king which really silly. Anything less and you don't get paid in the back and anything more your beat. Don't try to protect your anti by doubling your bet with bad cards. It's tough to toss the cards and give up your anti but that's what the casino's love about the game. Most people do just that(double there bet with bad cards). Don't forget your jackpot dollar because that's what your really playing for. I only play when the jackpot is really high and hope when I have a good hand the dealer Qualifies so I get paid in the back. What a game for the house. The dealer must qualifie for you to get paid your back bet. How did they ever get this on.

BC....here is a brief description on the game:

This game is a variation of poker played on a blackjack sized table. Following is how the game is played:

Play starts with each player making an ante bet in a designated square. Each player then receives five cards face down. Players may examine their own cards but may not share information with each other. The dealer also receives five cards, four face down and one face up. At this point each player has two options: raise or fold. If the player raises he puts twice his ante bet in the raise box. If the player folds he must relinquish his cards to the dealer, who will collect his ante bet. After all players have made their plays the dealer exposes his own cards. If he does not qualify with at least an ace and king then all remaining ante bets pay even money and all raise bets push. If the dealer does qualify then each remaining player hand is individually compared against the dealer's hand, and the best poker hand wins in each case. If the dealer has the higher hand the player loses both ante and raise. In the unlikely event the two hands are equal in value then both ante and raise push. If the player has the higher hand the ante pays even money and the raise pays according to the following pay table.

Don't forget the jackpot..

BC: You put a dollar up before the hands begins for the progressive jackpot.

A royal wins the Jackpot and sometimes it gets as high as 100k
A straight flush gets 10% of the progressive

If you get a straight or better you also get a bonus in addition to your bet. EX: Flush $75 Full House $125

Jackpot is nice but remember your trying for a royal with 5 cards and no draw. I don't have to tell how hard that is. We see maybe 2 a year. The highest I have paid out was a little over 200k. That was in the day the game was hot nowadays people play it but not like they use to. 3 card poker is the new hot game. But we do see plenty of Straight Flushes I would say on the Avg maybe 2 a month maybe a little more.
