  • Move to Vancouver or Montreal as a digital nomad?

I am so sick of our nasty, morally bereft, ethically broken, somatically dying, kleptocratic neoliberal military-industrial wasteland of a nation where we weaponize debt, reward corporate thieves and listen to Taylor Swift on an endless doom loop.

Who's moved to Canada? I work remotely in NYC right now and they seem to have a visa for the self-employed.

I know Montreal and Vancouver are pricey for Canada but, holy hell, I pay $3000/month for a rathole currently.

I moved from Brooklyn to Montreal about two years ago and couldn't justify the rent anymore, especially for the tiny space I got. I work remotely too, and the self-employed visa option was a decent path in. Winters here are serious business, but once I got proper gear and started layering like a local, it became manageable. I'm fully English-speaking but I made a conscious effort to learn some French, and it really helped with settling in socially. Overall, it's been much more relaxed and affordable compared to NYC.

Keep an eye on moving costs because they can sneak up on you, especially cross-border. I found a service that gave me a solid estimate upfront and saved me a lot of headaches: https://threemovers.com/how-much-doe...to-move-house/.
