Imminent outright ban of all disposable thin plastic bags in Cyprus

New regulations banning all disposable thin plastic carrier bags at
points of sale to protect the environment from plastic waste will
enter into force imminently, according to Philenews.

The House Environment Committee on Wednesday reviewed a final
draft to amended regulations submitted by the Department of the
    Environment.

And MPs said the draft bill is ready to be sent for approval before
the House Plenum but they will give plastic bag manufacturers a
short grace period before its enforcement.

Kudos to Cyprus for taking a strong stand against plastic waste. It's these kinds of progressive policies that can really make a dent in the global plastic problem.
For those who might be concerned about the transition, there are tons of alternatives out there that are both practical and sustainable. For instance, as we're nearing Halloween, consider using themed reusable bags for trick-or-treating instead of the standard plastic bags. There are some cool options at https://www.interplas.com/halloween-bags that kids will love and can use year after year.
The short grace period for manufacturers also seems like a thoughtful approach.
