  • Infosec folks: Why is TikTok bad from a security perspective?

I have seen a few infosec folks say it is bad. I understand that they're selling data to the Chinese government, and congresscritters on both sides of the aisle are saying it is a National Security risk. That was enough for me to delete the app.
Why? What are they getting from knowing that I dig old school country music, dogs, babies, and conventionally attractive people of the opposite sex? Or is the app actually spyware and they now have access to my bank accounts?

To my mind, TikTok, like any other social media platform, has potential security risks and privacy concerns. Tik Tok collects a large amount of personal data from its users, including location, contacts, and browsing history. The platform has faced criticism for not adequately moderating inappropriate content. Besides, there have been reports of security vulnerabilities in the app. So, there are enough reasons to think TikTok isn't 100% safe. Yet, there is no danger if you use the platform appropriately. There are many reliable tools for getting TikTok views, likes and comments without exposing to any risks. So, I encourage anyone to find them and to protect their personal information anytime and anywhere.
