The big day is almost here. On May 1st, 2004 horse racing's premier event, the Kentucky Derby, takes place. This year's Derby field is wide open. The three post time favorites will probably be Tapit, Smarty Jones and The Cliff's Edge. Tapit won by a narrow margin in the Wood Memorial. Smarty Jones looked very good in his Arkansas Derby win. Should he win the Kentucky Derby, his owners will pick up a 5 million dollar bonus. The Cliff's Edge won his last race, the Blue Grass at Keeneland.
Here are a couple of Kentucky Derby notes. This year's Derby has a scheduled post time of 6:04 PM Eastern. The race will be carried live on NBC. The final field for the Derby won't be available until Wednesday April 28th, 2004. It appears at this time that there will be a full field of 20 horses.
