  • Rhode Island presents revised gambling bill

    22nd June 2011

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island -- A revised casino bill was presented Tuesday night at a House Finance Committee hearing, that included considerations over online gambling provisions, The Providence Journal reported.

The revisions could be added to a budget proposal up for House vote this Friday, the report suggested.

The online gambling provision relates only to the language in the legislation not limiting what the state can offer, if say, the Federal Government was to legalize online gambling, the Providence Journal report explained.

Other reworkings to the legislation included financial relief for the struggling Newport Grand slot parlour and an increase in income paid by the state lottery to gaming machine supply companies for tv-themed games, that have higher licensing fees, the Providence Journal report said.

I am elated that at the very least state legislatures are finally waking up and realize that gambling and sports gambling are a reality and that the best and most prudent thing is to deal with it and accept it and derive some tax revenues from it by regulating it.
Times are tough, and govt. needs revenues to pay the bills-what better way to achieve this than to get a nice piece of the pie from those who can afford to partake in gambling activities.
