  • Interesting Sportsbook Question

I would like to know what your sportsbook would do and/or what your own opinion is on this.
This just happened to me at Bookmaker:
I had a small $63 free play remaining for money deposited a while back.
I decided to wager all of it on the OVER in Red Sox game tonight(I also wagered some of my own regular money on this).
Now the original wager was based on Beckett vs. Burnett.
I learned later that Burnett has been replaced by Mosely meaning both bets are canceled.
Wanting to know what happens to my $63 for the free bet, I called Bookmaker CR and was told that my $63 is gone and that I no longer have a free bet.
I asked why and was told that the pitching change was beyond their control and that a free bet means it is a free bet only for that game no matter if there is a pitching change, rainout, etc.-in short if something like above happens, you are out of luck.
I bitched about it and asked to see it in the rules and/or to speak to a supervisor.
The guy then said he would tranfer me to the wagering department to see if they would overturn it.
Anyways, over there I got a better explanation-the man told me the system couldn't make a change because of the way it was set up, but that he understood my point and would make an exception and restore my $63, which he did.
I checked the rules afterwards and did NOT see anything about a free bet being canceled for my particular circumstances.
Obviously I would think that the chances of first making a free bet and then having a pitching change must be pretty rare anyways-its not something that happens that often.
Anyways,I would like to know what your sportsbook would do under my circumstances and/or what is your own opinion here-did something like this ever happen to any of you and what was the final outcome?
For me it is a no brainer-a free bet is a free bet and one must be at least given the opportunity to win or lose-simply canceling the bet imo is not an option.
    All opinions are welcome.

Agree with you 100%..A free bet is a free bet and the game has to be played inorder for it lose or win

Not quite the same, but a push cancelled my free play a few years ago. No refund, I didn't read the fine print. Even after I read the fine print, I still wasn't convinced....pretty ambiguous stuff. They may have you on a technicality.

Get to the right person, they can make the call. I have to say that some books are more customer friendly than others. You may need some help (Monte) on this one.

Thats pretty lame that they would try to rob you of your free bet. 5dimes charges you $40 every time you cash out unless it is between Monday 9-1 when everybody is working. That seems cheap to me. Hopefully I'll move to Vegas someday and wont have to deal with online sportsbooks!!

Not the first time that has ever happened to me. Sorry Savage, Wayne, and anyone else. Time for a do over, I haven't used on in awhile.

I need to finish reading your posts before I jump in. This one was short enough for my ADD not to have kicked in.

Savage, glad you got it worked out

It's a cancelled bet thus the money goes back into your account. The problem with a lot of these books is that a lot of the people working at them don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. It's a matter of speaking to the right person.

This is true. I've been known to call the guy on the other end of the phone at my offshore a banana picker a time or two

$40 is chump change. Addiitonally with smart phones being very popular these days, it makes it much easier to cash out during that time
