  • how many casinos exist in the United States

    Q:
I read the QoD every day … you folks do a terrific job. I was wondering how many casinos exist in the United States. I remember the old days when one had to go to Nevada to visit a casino. Today, casinos seem to be almost everywhere. Could you list the number of casinos by state and the number in each state that are owned by Native American tribes?
    A:
Flattery will get you everywhere. Here goes...
    Arizona: 23 casinos (all tribal)
    Arkansas: 2 casinos
    California: 58 casinos (all tribal)
Colorado: 37 casinos* (2 tribal), including two of our favorite-named casinos, the Brass Ass and Bullwhackers (French Lick in Indiana being another)
    Connecticut: 3 casinos (all tribal)
    Delaware: 3 casinos

I know of one casino in Maine...A slots place in Bangor. We have had this on the ballot a couple of times (to bring in a real casino) but has been voted down both times. I don't consider slots casinos a real casino.
