  • Jerry Yang Wins the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event

Jerry Yang places his new WSOP bracelet on the mountain of money after winning the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event. (Bodog Beat Image)

At 3:45am when the six of hearts hit on the river to fill out Jerry Yang's gutshot straight draw and win him the final hand, the World Series of Poker crowned a new champion. The 39-year-old resident of Temecula, Calif., spent $225 to buy into a live satellite at the Pechanga Resort and Casino and parlayed that into the $8.25 million first-place prize.

Jerry dominated play at the final table with aggressive raises, re-raises and questionable calls. However, the results are beyond question. He eliminated all but one of his final table opponents in a run that saw him go from second-to-last in chips at the beginning of final table play to the eventual winner.

Not only has this cash improved Jerry's own standard of living, but the health psychologist with six children has also pledged ten percent of his winnings to three separate charities, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Feed the Children, and the Ronald McDonald House. This sizable donation is sure to help make a difference in the standard of living for many of it's recipients.

Finishing in second only one card away from doubling up is Tuan Lam, a Vietnamese immigrant who now lives in Toronto, Canada. This is his third WSOP cash and will by far be the most life-changing.

The exact payouts are as follows:

    Jerry Yang - $8,250,000
    Tuan Lam - $4,840,981

This concludes our live coverage of the 2007 World Series of Poker, come back tomorrow for a more detailed wrap-up of this final table.
