I myself subscribe to the philosophy that "The buck stops here", meaning Bush and his administration must assume a good part of the blame for what I and others perceive the mess this country finds itslef and the total lack of disrepect of most of the rest of the world;Bill Maher hits this point home very eloquently and with a lot of documentation.
Can you do the same?

i dont watch his show. I do have HBO and i'll be sure to DVR it and listen to what he says and then counter. I've seen his show in the past. Its actually a good watch sometimes. Thing is he makes points but never lets the opposition respond. i stopped watching it because like most of today's media its so far left(one sided) its a joke.
Savage please answer me this. If a republican was drunk behind the wheel and smacked into a baricade and police let him go wouldnt the liberal media be calling for the guys head??? Oh and they'd be blaming bush too as well. But why is it ok for a Dem better yet a kennedy just go on his way and say Oh i'm going to quote "get help" oh so that makes everything ok??2013 NCAA POD Record

The same "rest of the world" standing there with their hands out after every disaster? Funny thing about respect is that no one is going to tell the USA they disrespect them and cash their checks at the same time.
So is it safe to assume you don't believe in giving these countries who disrespect us BILLIONS of USA tax dollars? B/c when a republican wants to cut foreign aid, who's the first to cry? The left.

10 Dime-I don't think the media is perfect, but question the importance of how important it is whether they call for anyone's head or not.
In addition, there are conservatitve newspapers and networks like Fox which editorialize in their own manner.
Sure important people like Ted Kennedy may have received preferential treatment but it cuts both ways.
For example, do you think if Rush was just a regular citizen, he would have got off so easy for illegally procuring and using drugs?
You talk about racism because someone made some remarks;ok, I happen to think Rush Limbaugh is a racist and bigot and have my doubts about Bush himself about where his REAL feelings are.
I disagree about Maher-he does at times have conservative guests or at the very least does interviews with people during the show. In this particular show he did a short interview with one of Fox commentators(I think his name is Gibson).
I admit that I don't have to watch any shows to have an opinion of Bush and that shows like Bill Maher reinforces it.
As stated before, I listen just about every day to Rush and guys like Howie Carr, who is also very conservative to listen to what the Right has to say.
I think the more view points one reads and listens to, the more he/she is able to form an opinion.
I personally think the country should be doing better in many things especially in the international area.
Hope above helps-now go Red Sox-thats all that really matters.

Sure we hand out plenty of aid to the rest of the world after disasters, which I think is a good thing.
I don't think though that this can be equated with what we have done say in Iraq.
We are talking different things here, meddling and fighting an imperialist war on the soil of a sovereign nation especially over questionable pretense doesn't set well with educated people in many countries including some of our allies.
We are the laughing stock at best and hated at worst by many people in the world because of what we have done.
I simply don't understand your point of how foreign aid should be even relevant to what the US has done.
Here is an example in sports which is far from perfect but which shows how a different opinion can be had of someone depending on what you are talking about:
When Pedro Martinez pitched for the Sox, I loved him as a pitcher and more importantly because he helped the sox win games.
I hated and still hate his "My sh-t don't stink" and surly and condescending attitude as a human being.
Do you see my point?Last edited by savage1; 05-16-2006, 04:58 PM.

the world hates us regardless if were @ war with a country or not. Iraq is irrelivent with regards to hating the USA. People hate the US cause we are the best country in the World. When your # 1 at anything people/countries hate you, no matter what good you do for them. IMO i'd love to see the USA for 1 year outlaw all funds that are being spent for foreign aid and take those $$$ and help the homeless problem here in america. I know this would never happen, but i'd love to see how the world would react when the USA only looking out for itself2013 NCAA POD Record

The sad part is that all the money wasted in iraq could have used for many more useful pruposes such as taking care of poor people both here and the world.
I have to take exception with your blanket statement that the US is hated because we are best.
Do you think all the people in all the world reduce their thinking to such simplicity.
As an example on my last return trip from Colombia, I had a conversation from a bright and well educated woman from Great Britain who told me most of her friends felt as she did that the US actions in Iraq were deplorable and that they all had a loathing for George Bush because of his total lack of concern for the feelings of anyone else other than himself.
People in many other countries also read, watch tv and are not stupid.
I don' think most sit there and think to hate America solely because we might have a higher standard of living than they do;it goes much deeper and that; before the Bush Administration world respect was infinitely higher than it is now even though our standard of living was still very high.
ps one of the big mistakes of Bush is that he thinks that the rest of the world holds the same things to be important as does the US;nothing could be further from the truth. All cultures are different and have a different set of values;sadly our president doesn't understand this.Last edited by savage1; 05-16-2006, 05:36 PM.

Savage, my comparison to foreign aid was in response to your blanket statement that we are a disrespected country throughout the world. If that is so, don't you find it hypocritical for countries to take our money to our face and disrespect us behind? If we are THAT bad of a nation, then stop doing business with us. If we're that evil, don't accept our money out of principle. If people hate it here THAT badly, go somewhere else. Seems simple enough. We're OK when we're writing the checks, but horrible all the other times?
