the demand for gas worldwide has been rising steadily for the past 10 years.

mostly due to china and other third world countries increase in automobile sales

That's true, but why is it going up again to Katrina levels all of the sudden? The demands from those Countries was there at least 2 or 3 years ago and gas wasn't that high.

I also own a transport co & a used car lot.

both businesses have gone to hell because of gas prices

sold 75 cars & trucks last month, this month only sold 10

my transporter have been cutt in 1/2.

I didn't read through the whole thread, just the few 3-4 posts, but the government has nothing to do with the gas prices. If they did, there would be price controls, aka socialism.

The cost of a barrel of oil is set my the market, unfortuantely with the booming economy of China as well as issues with supply concerns in Iran, Nigeria, and elsewhere, the traders have driven up the price. It's a basic free market economy system with supply and demand curves. Unless supply goes up or demand goes down, the price stays unfortunately.

The only thing we can do is cut out usage or open up ANWR to oil drilling. Obviously ANWR is a long term solution, a decade minimum, but no better time to start than now!

                          Monte,
The government fucked up when they allowed the 2 largest oil companies, Exxon and Mobile to merge. It gave the oil companies WAAAAAYYYYY to much power. Oil prices went up after Katrina and the demand never didn't, hence more profits for the GIANTS. Now they know they're perameters for price hikes are higher so any excuse they can put out to the media about raising prices they will.
That's just how I see it...

PS and before anyone starts bashing Bush about allowing the merger, it was approved during the Democrats reign. Just another reason I believe Lobbyist and Special interest groups are what's fucking things up for us. GREED GREED GREED. We stopped being our brother's keeper somewhere along the line.....
