We don't have those over here, and if we do, I never seen one in real life. I didn't know they loose their needles like that.

I've actually been up close to a porcupine and they are funny looking little creatures. They can be domesticated as well, but the one thing you have to remember is..... you can only pet them in one direction. See pictures above for reasons why that is.
