  • LSU or anyone?

I've been getting pop-up ads when I turn on my computer. I think I'm getting them threw Microsoft!
    This is what it says:

Ceres-Part of ABI Network. It's a free registry cleaner software by Systweak.com.

Have you ever heard of it and how do I get it out of my computer! I just started getting it after I updated Spyware Doctor today!

Pop Up ads when browsing a certain site is normal.
Pop Up ads when just turning on, or just using your puter is an infection, and can be a pain in the ass to get rid of.
Google, "Trend Micro" and use there online virus scan. Read the FAQ's and see what turns up. L2S

        Cheese,

Try running Spyware Doctor. A full scan will probably take care of this.

You know, I've watched and heard a lot of members here indorse Spydoctor, but I had more pop-up when I had Spydoctor than I did when I didn't. It was out of control. I trashed that crap and went with Spybot, and it took about 2 days, but Spybot got it under control and now I might get about 7 popups a day if that. JMHO!

            Tigger is right on.

SPYBOT is the way to go.

Also if you have Google on your toolbar make sure it's pop up blocker is active.

Ditto for XP. It also is capable of toggling on and off.

Make sure you are running a current up to date version of EITHER McAfee or Norton Security that updates daily to insure BOTH your Scan Engines and DAT files are the most current.

Unfortunately some of the cheaper security software only updates their download servers twice a week or even weekly. But it is darn sure better than nothing!

You may even check your firewall settings if you are configured through a router to insure unwanted vulnerable ports are secured and locked out.

            GOOD LUCK CHEESE HEAD!! Goldvike

I don't know shit about computers, but I do know that when I used Internet Explorer as my browser, I kept getting all kinds of pop ups even with Pop Up Stopper enabled. But when I use Netscape with or without Pop Up Stopper, I don't get any pop ups. Netscape has a good pop up blocker built in and I have always thought Gates programed IE to even generate it's own Pop Ups.

The simplest thing for anyone using Internet Explorer is to try using Netscape instead and see if the pop ups stop. They should.

Thanks guys, that helped. I do have a pop-up blocker and was wondering why I still got those messages. I quess I figured it out!

If you have any more trouble PROVIXY is the way to go.

A friend of mine ( pretty sharp computer guy ) put it in my comp. and haven't had a pop up in years.

Chuck, get rid of SpyDoctor. I think SpyDoctor is more of a dataminer than a popup blocker, meaning....... it searching on your computer for files, sites, any activity you do that it can then take the information, process it and sell it to companies, so they target you. Shorter story you say? They sell you out, MORE POPUPS!!! Get rid of that crap.

                          Tigger,

I've had Spyware Doctor for well over a year now. It has gotten me out of a huge jam, that no other spyware program could, and I've tried a ton of them.

I hardly ever get pop-ups. I doubt that Spyware Doctor is causing the pop-ups on Chuck's computer.

Spyware Doctor stops me from viewing sites that some people post on here. When I turn it off to view the site, I get pop-ups.
