Looking for someone who knows what they are talking about concerning HDTV's. I am thinking about buying a new one. I went to best buy to look and they wanted to sell me that Plus some $400 surge protector that is suposed to make the picture and sound 100% better. You also have the choice to buy a HDTV box, or get it through your cable company. Im interested in all this so I don't buy what I don't need and I do buy what i do need. Thanks for your help.

scott i got a hdtv at rex and went to cable company and got a hdtv box for the same price as a regular cable box all of my hd channels are GREAT if u shop around youll find someone will throw in the stand and some other things for FREE (dvd player) if u have a rex near ya thell even match best buy

Scott, i just bought a Phillips Magnavox 60 inch HDTV a couple months ago. I have the premium digital gold package for cable. You need to get digital cable to get the HD affect. I have about 500 channels. We have foxsports south, east, west, etc. and all the movie channels like 20 hbo's, 20 showtime's and so on. It comes (for me) with about 12 all HD channels. One of each of the movie channels like hbo, cinemax, showtime etc., and an espn HD channel along with channels for NESN, NBC, and so on. You also get all the things that say they are broadcast in hi-def on that particular channel, like MNF on ABC. The HD Box i get through the cable company costs me $7 per month and that's it for HD charges. Nobody has ever mentioned or talked about some $400 surge protector. I think that's bogus myself. I have a $10 wal-mart surge protector strip like people use for computers and it's fine.

As far as prices on t.v.'s. I checked out about 20 places for a 60-inch HDTV.Circuit city, Best buy, sears and all those places that carried a 60-inch HDTV ranged from about $2799.00-$4000.00................ Then i went to Sam's club and that's where i made my purchase for $1499.00. I couldn't believe they were half of everyone else. The T.V. is AWESOME and if you are not a member there than it's worth the $25. You can go there online too.

Scott. I've had one since the beginning of the year and HD is unreal. I just got a small 34 inch regular TV tube set, but it is shaped 6 by 9 like a movie screen. No matter what anyone says the best quality picture is still from an old fashioned picture tube. LCD and LTR projection are next, then Plasma and the worst is the old rear projection. Don't know how true this all is but I will swear by my Direct View set. It's a JVC and only cost $1799. Be careful when buying any HD set because many of them have features like picture in picture and different aspect settings etc. which will not work when you are watching any signal comming thru the sets HD componet input. That means all the non HD channels won't have these features either when going thru an HD box or receiver. I only know about the direct view TV's but JVC was the only set that let you use these features.

I never heard about the surge protector thing. I don't have one and my sets fine. Call me if you want more info Scott.
