Why they come to St Louis - and stay

Walker, acquired in a trade with Colorado on Friday night, was welcomed with a standing ovation that lasted well over a minute when he pinch-hit with two on and one out in the seventh. A near-sellout crowd of 45,364 stayed on its feet throughout the at-bat and gave him another standing ovation even after he struck out against Kris Benson.

Another thread discussed "the best" sports towns. I won't quibble with
any other city regarding the OVERALL classification but as a Baseball town St Louis fans are at the top of a short list.

As a whole they(we) are courteous, knowledgeable, avid, loyal and forgiving.

As a note the standing O started BEFORE we was announced the situation called for a pitch hitter and as soon as he left the dug out they were waiting to greet him. BUT the kicker is even when he STRUCK OUT they still cheered. Now that is a group of fans with a long term outlook.

Yes I am from St Louis and yes I was a season ticket holder for 20 years until the greed of the players and owners, the lack of ownerships ability to actually name a commissioner, and the walkout/strike/lockout that caused the cancellation of the World Series, and team after team threatening to leave and forcing Cities/tax payers to foot the bill for new stadiums made me say enough is enough.
