    Hey guys,

Had my annual physical and got quite the shock. Was wondering if any members are dealing with this.Im a little overwhelmed right now,to say least.

Wow, that's a little scary to say the least!

I cant offer any words of wisdom as I haven't dealt with either. What has the doctor recommended?

Hey Big5. I have no clue about diabetes. I did have a somewhat high cholesterol number. I would definitely do as the doctors tell you. It's all treatable. Diet and exercise are key components and changing lifestyle habits that might be harming you. Ie; smoking, drinking, no exercise, no fiber, etc, etc. There are some medications to bring down your cholesterol, but the side effects suck.

Good luck man and keep us informed as to what is going on with yours. Monte might have some thoughts as well...

        Big Country,

Mom is pre-diabetic and has high cholesterol. They want her to take cholesterol medication, but she doesn't want to as the side effects aren't good. What was your cholesterol reading? As through medical research they are finding the official numbers for cholesterol to be wrong.

As for the diabetic part do you eat much fruit or vegetables? As Gary said if you smoke try to quit. Try getting some exercise even if it's 10-15 minutes a day. And if you drink try cutting back. Cinnamon capsules are good to take as well. Did the Doctor tell you if you could get away from being diabetic? They should send you to a nutrition as well.

I had a cholesterol count over 300 at one time. Should be under 200 and now they are saying close to 100 as possible. Mine now is 150, used Crestor (best on the market), exercised and stared watching my diet. High cholesterol can be controlled but you have to do your part. Monte had a lot of good advise, make sure you follow your doctors orders an you should be able to get everything under control.

Monte - I've been on Crestor for years with no side effects. It's the best medication out there for cholesterol. It really helped me bring mine down.

Well he put me on Metformin for the diabetes. He says he will take me off providing I can lose some weight, and eat better. My biggest worry is I do like beer, and at times lots of it.The cholesterol was in the low 200's,but he says Im predisposed for this condition, and will probably need it for life.He put me on 40 mg mg Lipitor.Ive never smoked, and not much overweight.I appreciate all the info, and opinions guys. Thanks for the links Monte.I will definitely check em out.

Ask your doctor about Atorvastatin. Been on it for years and there are no side affects. I believe it is a cheaper for of Lipitor. That with diet and exercise have helped mine
