Hi everyone,

I am new to this site and I am here to ask any site visitors/members if they could spare 10 minutes or less to take part in my survey about internet gambling behaviour. I really am a PhD student and would really, really appreciate your participation!

I need approximately 1000 participants and I am slowly getting there but still need a lot more so please help me! It is completely anonymous and should be very interesting for you!

I only use the internet for forum chat here and checking lines at other sites. I do not use any online account for the actual gambling, I use a local bookie.

Did you create the survey instrument and pre-test it with subjects from the UK? If it is an investigator-initiated instrument without formally establishing psychometric properties for use with various populations the data you get from respondents outside the UK will probably not be as valid and reliable as those data received from respondents within the UK. Laws are different, terminology is different, etc. Practices are different as indicated by some of the responses in this thread. I use online for getting information about gambling and placing my bets. Financial transactions are with a local book's representative. I quit doing online financial transactions associated with gambling in 2006 when the US laws changed. so, I'm not sure exactly about your operational definition of 'online gambling'. but hey, it's your dissertation not your life's work and I wish you all the best.

She'll know what I meant...if she actually reads this thread. she'll probably tell some of her friends at the university something like this, "here's what some smart-ass yank degenerate from across the pond said about the survey...but..who cares about the psychometric properties of my survey? I just wanna collect some data so I can get the damn dissertation done already."
