  • What Would You Do?

I am not sure the question belongs here, because it does involve gambling.
On the other hand, your answer gives an indication as to how you think and your value of money.
Lets start off with the premise that for the football season you are overall about even.
Now lets say that a few days ago for the fun of it you threw down $50 or so in a multi team parlay (10 or more) to try to win 10K(I say $50 or so and 10 or more teams because I don't know how much money or how many teams you would need to win the 10K).
Anyways, somehow you have hit every game so far and only one game remains.
The question is would you hedge, and if so, how much would you hedge your bet with reasoning if you like.

I always hedge, mathematically, I shouldn't as it eliminates my advantage. But I play to come out as far ahead as I can everyday. I take it one day at a time, and if I can gaurantee myself a big plus day, I will always take it.

Depends on so many things, but most of it is personal. How risk adverse you? Is the money significant to you? Would losing it devastate you? If there is no middle ground, meaning you either win $10k or $0, I think you have to hedge to some extent, how much is dependant on your sitaution. There is no right or wrong answer, but if you are just looking for personal opinions, I'd probably offset 25% myself.

Depending on how much confidence I had in the last game, i would do a minimum of 25% but probably 35%(to ensure at least $3500 profit).
If upon further review, I thought that the last game was a horrible pick on my part, I would hedge as high 50%.

          I'd hedge 50% to ensure a 5 grand win.

What is funny and one of the reasons i asked the question is that this just happened to me yesterday on a very tiny scale.
I had a $35 6 team parlay alive last night which would have bet $566 if it won.
Five teams were already in and for some reason I chose Golden State as the final pick giving points on the road.
I asked myself what I was thinking and without hesitation hedged 50% ensuring me about half no matter who won.
Well, Golden States got destroyed and I was of course happy that I had at least picked up something rather than nothing(and actually losing the $35).
