Starting a poll about a player when the person starting it is not even aware that the guy played his entire outstanding career except for his last year with the Orioles and NEVER played for the Red Sox has me in stitches.
I have several questions for you guys and especially for those unlike myself who never saw Belanger play and what he contributed:
1) Can I assume that since his 8 Gold Gloves is not considered to be of much significance because he wasn't much of a hitter, that in other sports defensive isn't important either.
Take for example hockey-I don't follow it as close as I used to,but can I assume that guys like Patrick Roy, Ken Dryden, etc. and present day goalies were/are nothing special either because after all, they could/can only stop the puck but DIDN'T/DON'T score any goals themselves?
2) Also, if as stated last night Belanger was just some shithead from the 70's and 80's, that the game has changed, etc., than maybe we should assume that George Washington and Abe Lincoln were just some shithead Presidents from the 1700's and 1800's who couldn't do the job as President today?
After all, because they lived back then and none of us saw during their terms as President, we can simply they wouldn't be able to do the job in today in the much more complex and highly revolutionized, technology driven world we live in today had they been born in the 20th Century rather than born when they were-food for thought if nothing else.
ps In all honest, I certainly hope that this entire poll is in jest and that person starting it really does know where Belanger played almost his entire career-I wouldn't bet on it though.
