  • How Many Hours a Day Do You Spend on the Internet?

This question may have been asked in the past, but lets get more specific this time.
How many hours a day on average do you spend on the internet, and how many of the hours are work related and how many are for use?
Also, break down the number of hours you use it-that is how many for gambling related activites, how many for porn., and for any other reason(please be specific).
Finally, in terms of your own existence, do you feel for whatever reason you are spending too much time(too little?) on the internet, and how many non related work hours do you feel you really should be spending on the internet?

4 hours a day or so. That includes work, part time gambling lol. I do not want or have a blackberry. I read a lot of news rather than watch it on tv so internet is great.

Sundau-Wednesday I am on about an hour in the morning and maybe 15 mins in the afternoon.

Thursday-Saturdays pretty much from 9 am till 5 pm taking breaks here and there.

I do my horse research there in the mornings, my betting in the afternoons.

Also been spending a lot more time because I am looking for a new job.

Got any good job leads in the area for me savage?
          Good Luck to everyone

Ok-guys, here goes and hold onto your hats.
I sure as heck am not bragging but just being honest about things.
Now keep in mind that I am retired and thus have a lot of free time on my hands.
I would say that I spend at least 9-10 hours a day on the internet and sometimes even more.
During weekdays, during the day I would say I divide the time roughly equally between watching my stocks and the relevant chatboards and gambling sites such as this one and non gambling related things such as the news, reading emails and sometimes shopping on line.
At night I usually check scores of the games I have bet on at several sites as well as of course reading posts and posting myself.
Obviously, my wife doesn't like all of the time I spend on the internet but accepts it.
In all honesty, I am going to gradually try to cut back some, because I fully realize that although I do spend some time with my wife and new baby, I don't spend enough.
I am curious though-I see that some of you guys who are employed spend about four hours a day on the internet.
My question is do you think that if you were retired (no matter how old you are0, would you spend more time on the internet than you presently do?

Savage much like yourself I spend 9-12 hours a day on the internet. I do work from home and I sit in front of 3 different computers on my desk. I also trade on my brokeage account during the weekdays as I have 3 TV's also going at the same time.... @ CNBC, CNN, and Fox. I am the internet guy, there is not 1 portion of my life that is not connected to these computers.

I do spend time on sites much like this one, following what are no doubt a good bunch of cappers. I gather all of my information before pulling the trigger on a game.

I have had people ask me if I miss an office setting, but it is my opinion that these "relationships" are all BS popularity
contests. I have been working this way for over 10 years now and hope to finish my work career right where I'm at.

Savage-----To answer your question with being laid up over the past three months I would for sure spend more time on it if I was retired. It has replaces my newspaper and for the most part I hardly watch TV anymore. I just have lost that much interest. Granted I would be doing other things but there is no doubt if I was retired more time would be spent right here on the net
Why do you ask that question. I think the folks on this site that do have jobs would spend at least two more hours a day if they didn't work. Just my opinion!

Bryce-thanks for your response and commentary.
I hardly watch any tv eithee other than Red Sox, sports in general, nightly news, Bill Maher, Larry King and occasionally when my wife is watching something interesting.
I asked the question because I was really curious as to how others would regard the internet if they didn't have any work obligations-in short, would they become more addicted to it like me or perhaps they wouldn't increase their overall time spent on that computer that much and do other things with their extra time.

More addicted no doubt. I feel we all have some type of addiction being on this board. I hope no one takes that the wrong way but gambling is an instant high---and unfortunately can be a low. I know when I am working I normally get home at 530-600 and immediatley hop on the computer. If I was around all day---YEP I would be on it!!

It definitely is an addiction;anyone and I mean anyone who is spending a good part of the day either on the internet on gambling sites, thinking about what teams they will bet on that day, getting constant scores or as you say gets and craves the highs and lows which go with the outcome of games should recognize that it is an addiction.
I say above whether over time you win, lose or break even.
At 64,I admit to being that kind of person described above, and I accept it if/until I decide to change.
Obviously, even worse is the person who is not only addicted to gambling but who goes deep into debt, loses his family, house, etc.
Fortuntately, and not to brag, but I have plenty of money now but bet VERY small relative to what I could if I wanted to
Years ago I bet somewhat bigger than now when I could less afford to do so, and the results both financialy and in my own personal life weren't pretty to say the least.
The problems now is not whether I win or lose, which isn't much one way or the other over time, but spending an inordinate amount of time with gambling related actvities on the internet.
Sorry for going off on a tangent, but I like to say what comes to mind, and I do feel it might help some younger folks to reflect on the relative worth of gambling and the internet to their entire existence.
