  • Help with New York

My wife and I are going to New York in the morning for a vacation. Our trip is for 5 days and we are staying 2 blocks off time square. Any places I need to make sure I go?

I've only been to New York twice, but I liked Greenwich Village and Central Park. Manhattan is nuts, in a good way. I was in town for the World Series games against the Marlins and Mets, partied in some great clubs, but I was single and it was a few years ago now. It'll be cold.

What type of recommendations are you looking for? Sightseeing, restaurants...?

My wife wants to go see Wicked or Jeresy Boy. I guess at night we will hang around Time Square. Someone told me to get a "red line" bus pass that will give you entrance to Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty and a bus tour of Central Park. I like a good sports bar myself.

I have been out of the city for almost 5 yrs so I can't fill you in on shows...except that there is a 'TKTS' booth in Times Square where you can get discounted tickets to shows for that day, if there are still some avail. ESPN Zone is in Times Square. I think it is every Americans responsibility to go to Ground Zero if you make it to NY...it is significantly different now, obviously, but you don't grasp the enormity of it unless you see it. Then there are the usual suspects- Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, MOMA, Central Park, must go to Rockefeller Center to see the tree, walk Fifth Ave and just look at the window decorations (walk from Rock Center to 60th street, Saks gets the most noteriety but Neimans is just as incredible). Walk SoHo, Little Italy...

          Enjoy it!

My wife and I had a great time. We went to two shows--Wicked and Christmas Spectaculer. I didnt think I would like the shows but I have to admit they were good. We also caught a couple of comic shows (very funny). We went to ground zero, Staute of Liberty,Empire state building, Rockafellar Center. We bought the Grey Line Bus pass for three days and it was worth it because the tour guides told us everything we would have missed. We ate at several nice places and also Toms Restaurant (Senfields). My wife went shopping while I caught the football games at ESPN Zone and a bar called The Social Club. I dont know if I will ever go back but I did have a great time. I do know there is big big difference between a small east texas town and New York City. Here are somethings I learned-----cab rides will scare you to death-----very expensive for everything in Time Square------people are not rude (except for cab drivers), just 25% of them dont speak english----you need to learn how to take the subway to get around---if you want a good looking fake watch go to Canel Street----good pizza----everyone wants a tip-----

Sounds like a good time man! I've never been to that part of the country and want to go and see all those sights that you did. Glad to see you made it back safe and had a good time

glad you liked NYC. i've eaten at tom's many times. Just down the street about 3 blocks on broadway is a pizza place called Kornett's they have the largest slice of pizza you'd ever see anywhere. NYC is a great place to visit. If i had know you were going i would have directed you to McSorley's. irish pub oldest bar in manhattan its legendary. glad u had fun. Yes it is expensive. no doubt about it
