The Man Behind Home Plate

Whoopee-Besides the Sox great comeback win tonight, I finally found out who the guy is behind home plate is at Fenway;this has been bugging me for months:

Now that I know who this guy is, can someone tell me why this season he wears those big headphones for the entire game? What is he listening to?
He surely can't be listening to Joe Castigilione announce the game for the entire game could he? Joe is well meaning but he sure as hell doesn't have the greatest pipes around.
Maybe we should start a separate thread speculating on what he is listening to and/or why at the very least he doesn't get something smaller-those phones like pretty bulky and uncomfortable to me.
