Alex Rodriguez has made "numerous" late-night visits to Madonna's Central Park West apartment, according to a published report.
Rodriguez, 32, has been seen arriving alone, according to US Weekly, and sneaks out of Madge's building "as late as midnight," a source told the magazine, adding, "all the doormen are talking."
Although they've been plagued by break-up rumors for years, Madonna's marriage to Guy Ritchie seems to be on the rocks for real this time, and both have reportedly hired divorce attorneys. A-Rod came under intense scrutiny last year when photos surfaced of him spending time with a woman who was not his wife on a Yankee road trip to Toronto.
US Weekly mentions that Rodriguez attended Madonna's April 30 concert in New York and the Daily News recently published photos of the singer at a June 22 Yankees game. Plus, they note, Madonna's son, Rocco, also wears Yankees gear.
OK! magazine also noticed the budding friendship between the Material Girl and A-Rod. "They met briefly at a charity event and that's it," the singer's publicist told the magazine.
Madonna has been shacked up in her posh Manhattan apartment - without her husband - for more than a week. Ritchie arrived in New York Monday night in a reported attempt to salvage their marriage.
The Times of London recently reported that Madonna has consulted high-powered British divorce attorney Fiona Shackleton, who represented Paul McCartney and Prince Charles in their respective divorces. Just days before, U.K. newspaper The Mirror quoted a friend of the couple who said the two are planning to split in November after Madonna's Sticky 'n' Sweet world tour wraps.
Several publications took note when Madonna was spotted in New York last weekend without her wedding ring. However, Madge has often gone ringless - alongside her husband - in the seven years that couple have been married. Ritchie, too, has often been spotted sans wedding band.
Ritchie's mother went on the offensive to Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, describing reports that the couple consulted divorce lawyers as "works of fiction."
"They are no different to most other couples," she said. "We all know that being together can be hard sometimes and marriages are not always a bed of roses."
