  • 46" Samsung DLP HDMI

I have owned a this TV for about 2.5 years now...In the past the TV has shut down (due to overheating I believe). I let it cool down overnight or some extended period of time and the turn it on and it works fine.

Last night I was watching the WVU/Depaul game and the screen goes dark again (still have sound).

I have the 3 flashing lights which indicates that the lamp is not functioning properly.

Do any of you own this TV or experienced these type of problems?

I'm going to call Samsung now and see what they can do for me.
    It's always noon somewhere!

If your TV isn't working you can come over to my house this weekend and watch sports. It's not like I have anything else to do.

Is it wall mounted? Plasma or LCD? Plasmas run much hotter. The key is a little ventilation, a very small fan turned low might help. Call Samsung and see what they think.

Also, try not to throw shit at the tv when your team misses free throws down the stretch.

Sounds like you may need to replace the bulb. Is the fan working right? I have a mitibushi DLP and haven't had the problem of the screen going blank.

Flare...I have been tempted to throw...but have yet to do so.

It is not wall mounted...It's a DLP that sit's on a TV stand. It has shut-down before...some type of safety feature that shut's the TV off when it's overheating...15 hours of college foots on a saturday might do that.

Monte...last night I could hear the fan running. I have been reading other information on the internet this morning and have also come to the conclusion that it is probably the bulb that has burnt out.

I have also found that some of the TV's have a "dynamic" setting...this setting makes the bulb burn brighter than normal...which reduces the life of the bulb.

I have the exact same TV (Samsung 46'' DLP).

I had a problem with the TV just shutting itself off, but I lost sound and everything. The repair guy came out and brought a new bulb, thinking this was the problem. It wasn't. One of the "boards" needed to be replaced. So he ordered that part and came back the next week and its been fine since (over a year ago). Bonus was he left me the new bulb for free!

I bought mine from a store (Tweeter), and they came out and fixed it for free. I had a buddy buy the same TV off internet to save a few bucks, and he had the same problem, and had to just call Samsung. Samsung will do everything they can, not to fix the TV...they were telling him to unplug the TV and let it sit for 10min and crap like that. How is that going to FIX the problem???

                Gookis -

Sweet move on the free bulb.

I bought mine from a Sears store in Watertown SD. I now live in Davenport IA...about 8 hours difference. I've been looking for someone that service Samsung in the area.

I called Samsung this morning, but I forgot to grab the model number off of my TV so they could only do so much. I know I don't have any warranty left on the TV so I'm pretty sure it's going to be all out of pocket price.

I think the reason I still have sound is because it comes through my surround sound...I've had the TV on mute for about 2 years...not mute but there is a setting so that no volume comes out of the TV speakers.

You know, I just remembred, I have ANOTHER friend who has a Samsung DLP, and he is having the same problem with it now too. He actually had it fixed last week (they replaced the bulb). It was fine for like a day or two, and it is doing it again. This is apparently a problem with these TV's. So, be careful about paying for a new buld, because that is always their first diagnosis, but it isn't always the problem.

I have my bulb set on the lower setting as its supposed to make it last longer. Go to ebay and check out the prices for a new one as there not that high.

If its a board problem I would still check ebay vs. local.

I just pulled out the bulb...the glass part that attaches to the wires is SHATTERED.

I just ordered one online...I found one for 135 bucks and had it overnighted...hopefully it's not too late at it will come tomorrow. I went to a couple stores in town...they would also have to order it and one was 225 and one was 190.

Try putting the bulb on the lower light this time as it should last longer.

Thanks for the heads up. I won't be buying one of those T.V.'s anytime soon.

I bought a 60 Inch Phillips Magnavox HDTV 2 years ago and i've never had a single issue with it. I love the picture and SIZE! The T.V. was between $2,500-$3,000 everywhere i looked and i ended up going to Sam's club and saw the exact T.V. for $1,499. I couldn't believe it. It was in my house the next day and i've had great success with it ever since. I want to hook the Wii or XBOX 360 up to it but i heard it's not good for the t.v. so i havn't. I really want to though!
