  • Southern California is on Fire

With no rain this winter the live fuel moistures are really low. Everything is dead around here. Add in the Santa Ana winds and 15% relative humidity and this is a mess. All of San Diego is covered in smoke and ash. Going to be bad.

The fires ravaging San Diego County are expected to get much worse before they get better. "This fire will probably be the worst this county has ever seen – worse than the Cedar fire," Sheriff Bill Kolender said.

    All schools are closed down

I live in Encinitas, but I'm going to school up at Cal Poly SLO. There's fires all the way up to Santa Ynez right now. I remember the Cedar fire four yeas ago and it was horrible. I worked in Rancho Santa Fe during the summer doing live fuel moisture sampling. You could see something like this coming. Stay safe.

Hey fellas - this has really turned out to be a catastrophic mess. The winds are so bad that they can't use copters or planes, and there is no real way to stop it! At one point, there were 8 seperate fires going across the county, but thankfully most are north of me.

The media is an absolute joke here....they are all just feeding into the hype and drama, and it drives me crazy. I've seen one newscaster change shirts 3 times !!! I mean, people are losing homes, and I bet there is a market research guy in the back saying "we are losing males 25-54, try this shirt".
