  • Cheating! Where to draw line? Please respond

My boss and I had a conversation about Bonds and other ball players that broke the rules.

    1. Bonds probably took steroids. But no proof. Does he deserve to be in the hall of fame?

    2. Babe Ruth got drunk before the games. That is proven. He was under a substance while playing and is in hall of fame!

    3. Lou Gherig was on morphine in his final years playing. He was sick but is that still considered under a substance.

    4. What about all the pitchers in the hall of fame that used sandpaper or vaseline etc. Why isn't that considered cheating?

    5. All the batters that used corked bats. Too much pine tar. Isn't that cheating?

I just wanted to ask is there a double standard here? Why are some overlooked and some not? Pete Rose gambled on baseball. I think he should be in the hall of fame. There are a lot of "other" cheaters in the hall. Why do they keep him out. A double Standard?

I am interested to see what you guys have to say about this topic. So please reply!

He will get into the HOF, because he continued to play after all of the steroids issues came out unlike McGwire

    2. Babe Ruth got drunk before the games. That is proven. He was under a substance while playing and is in hall of fame!No Comparison between the Babe and Bonds. Babe did more for the game than any player ever did.

    3. Lou Gherig was on morphine in his final years playing. He was sick but is that still considered under a substance. Big difference he was sick

    4. What about all the pitchers in the hall of fame that used sandpaper or vaseline etc. Why isn't that considered cheating? I thought it was

    5. All the batters that used corked bats. Too much pine tar. Isn't that cheating? Corked bats yes. On the pine tar all it does is give a better grip

Rose isn't in because he bet on MLB and his own team I believe. I believe he's served enough time and should be in. They will probably wait until he dies to do it.

There was a black sox player that wrote every year trying to get his name cleared until the day he died about not giving in to all of the shit that took place. And his numbers for the series proved it IMO.

thanks bettorschat! but on the pitching side. If that stuff was cheating why are there so many of them that did that and made it in the hof. And for the record I agree with you on the bonds thing but I lost that argument with my boss!

Getting drunk doesn't enhance your performance. If anything, it makes it harder. Sandpaper and stuff sure, it's cheating but if any of that is inspected during the game, you are screwed. Steroids or HGH are body enhancing turning you somewhat into a machine of sorts. Personally, i think they are way different. I'm also a believer in Bonds going in to the HOF too.

Who knows? That would have to be asked to the panel that votes them in. Catching and believing are 2 different things. So I'm assuming they only caught some of those pitchers on occasions.
