Pujols irked at La Russa

SAN FRANCISCO -- Albert Pujols was angry about not playing in the All-Star Game on Tuesday and took aim at the National League manager, who just happened to be Tony La Russa of his own St. Louis Cardinals.
''He can do what he wants,'' Pujols said after the game. ''He does whatever he wants. If I wasn't expecting to play, I wouldn't have come up here.''

Pujols, who said La Russa didn't talk to him the entire game, only could watch when Aaron Rowand flied out with the bases loaded to end a 5-4 American League victory.

''If he wants to get upset, he can get upset,'' La Russa said. ''Whatever he wants to do, he can do. It's America.''

La Russa said he was saving Pujols in case the game went long.

''He was the guy we were going to use to protect ourselves in case we kept playing because of Albert's versatility,'' La Russa said. ''I think we had the right guy at bat.''

Pujols said he was getting his body loose the whole night.

''I was ready to go since the game started,'' he said.

I don't see how you save Albert Pujols because of his "versatility". You save Freddy Sanchez because of his versatility, but there's no better time to use Pujols than with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth.

Great point! You need to make sure you are "there" first before worrying about saving him.

what "saving" anyway? Everyone is an all star on the team..there is no reason to pinch hit for anyone even if it goes into extra innings..La Rusa must have some beef w pujos not to have put him in..whaT a dick..

There is no way in hell i let Rowand bat with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. All you need is a single to win or a walk to tie and you leave the man named Phat Albert on the bench? Are you fucken kidding me tony???

On the bright side, i bet a whopping $30 on the A.L. last night and i was happy to see Rowand coming up!
