  • OK Guys...Time to take a breath....Here's the skinny on what the gambling bill means

    1. If this bill gets passed - it targets cc's, payment processors, banks etc.

    2. The bill puts the responsibility on the cc's, banks, and payment processors to enforce it.

    3. The language in the bill as it is written now states that there is a 270 day time period for these organizations to figure out a way to do this.

    4. In no way shape or form does this put any responsiblity on the gambler - or make it in any way shape or form illegal to do anything different than what the gambler is currently doing.

So dont panic. Is it bad? YES. It is bad because it could lead to more legislation down the line. But this bill is not intended to criminalize you the gambler.

There will be many workarounds. The bill is largely political to appease the Christian base.

The media will run headlines like "internet gambling bill illegal" etc - be educated - be smart - read the bill and understand it. It is LEGAL to wager online at the federal level and that is not being challenged tonight.

Stay active and stay in the fight.
Please don't question my record or I will leave!!!!

I know you mentioned "his buddies" as well, but our President does not sit in either chamber of Congress and had NOTHING directly to do with this passing.

Just to add to this...and this was written quite well...

There was NEVER any danger to us the bettor in this. This all had to do with who was receiveing our payments....

Loopholes will always be our friend in this case, and they will be found.

It may mean that a lot of the smaller books may get forced to shut down but I honestly think the big boys won't flinch much.

            Just my two cents...

What sort of impact will this have on internet gambling. Will sites start shutting down or do you think they will survive this?

Will sites start shutting down? Some will. The big boys will not. There's too much money to be found in the U.S. for the books to just throw their hands up and say "no mas."

Remember, about 3 years ago it became almost impossible for you to fund an account via credit card, so we found another way. western Union became almost impossible, so we found another way. When your first bank transfer gets blocked, you will be upset.....but our sportsbooks will find another way. They'll have a dummy account for us to send money to, until the government catches on and closes that down.....it will be a cat and mouse game.

Our ISPs simply cannot keep up with the "mirror" sites that sportsbooks can put up to stop us from visiting those sites. Again, a cat and mouse game.

What this will do is it will shut out the first time gambler, the newbie, who doesn't have the time or patience to find a way to do it. This will cut the number of gamblers via the internet by at least 30%, so the gov't can say, "See, we're protecting our children," and we can go on with our lives.

                  Gag.

Our lives are not over. We shall overcome. Even this draconian congress who is about to lose its power in numbers (Frist tried soooo hard to do this to appease the Christian base because he wants a run at presidency and the Republicans are about to lose, they fear.) We shall overcome them.

Our president doesn't have to sign it either, but he will.

It's attached to the ports security bill. Of course he'll sign it.

Cash is correct in his analysis but do not underestimate the real risk here---the one that has been hre all along: BOOKS SHUTTING DOWN AND TAKING YOUR MONEY.

Books are not going to shut down and take your money. The shit books might, but not the real books.

If Frist did this so he can run for President then he did it for nothing as he won't win! Republicans have been trying to get this passed for years and kept losing, because the Democrats wouldn't let it go through. Like i've said before the only reason it went through was, because the Democrats couldn't vote against the port bill as it would make them look as if they don't care about terroism.

Also look for those Countries that house these sportsbooks to file Lawsuits against the USA like Antigua did.
