  • Computer geeks?

Hey guys, i'm sure some of you are nerds like me. I am rebuilding my computer, and used an XP cd that came with my laptop. its a reinstallation cd, and everything installed fine but now windows wants me to activate it. I used the cd key that came with my laptop...no good. does anyone have a cd key that will work? or a reliable crack to get this thing running good?

    thanks

When you activate XP call the Microsoft 800 number. Tell the tech support guy you had to reinstall XP. Tell them that copy of XP is not installed on any other computer. They'll give you the activation key.

You have to do this by phone. You can't activate over the internet.

Do you have the original XP key for your desktop computer? It might be on a sticker on the case. When you activate you can change the key to the correct desktop key.

I keep all my XP keys in a file on all my computers. This way if I ever have a system crash I can reactivate. There's a free utility that you can download that you can either print the key or save to a file.

Make sure to tell them you are reinstalling the XP OS to the SAME PC. That is very important!!! You cant reuse OS licenses over and over again. With an OEM license, the minute your comp dies so does your OEM license.

I've used the utility for years. Although, I downloaded it years ago. I've never had problems. My systems are clean.

The link does not have a trojan. PC-cillin classifies this program as a low security threat because it reads the registry. The program reads the product key from the registry. It does not install or run any programs on the computer. It is NOT a trojan.
