Don't take this question as defending Ozzie, but what does being a "shitty" player have anything to do with his managerial skills? If you played 15-years in the show, you can't be that shitty...there are guys that are career minor leaguers and if they are lucky might get a drink a water in the show.
I think Rook said it best, if you win you can get away with hell of a lot more.

I think Ozzie is a great manager. He actually tries to MANUFACTURE runs and puts pressure on the defense be stealing bases and sacraficing. He is smart enough to know that with his pitching, if he manufactures a run here and there they will win quite a few ball games.

I also like how he uses his pitching staff by GASP: allowing his pitchers to go deep into big games!!!

Just look a the playoffs. Maybe if LaRussa took a few lessons from Ozzie and didnt micro-manage a pitching staff to death in the postseason, he might not be 1 for the playoffs.

It's his on field, and off field antics we're questioning, not his baseball knowledge.......

One has NOTHING to do with the other. You are saying that Jerry Manuel handed him a team that one the WS last year. Jerry Manuel was two years removed.
