    Week 2 CFL

Toronto (1-0) @ Winnipeg (0-1)- Toronto won its opener behind 97 rushing yards from Ricky Williams, passing of former Browns backup QB Spergeon Wynn and a +2 turnover ratio; they held Hamilton to four points in second half. Winnipeg lost its opener at Montreal, getting outscored 20-7 in second half; Bombers outrushed Als 113-73 but turned ball over three times. Home side was 4-0 in Week 1 of CFL play.

Montreal (1-0) @ Hamilton (0-1)- Hamilton QB Maas wasn't a starter in college at Oregon; he was 25-34/240 at Toronto, last week, but TiCats turned ball over three times, and allowed 18 first half points in 27-17 loss. Hamilton actually outrushed Argos 115-113, despite Williams' 97 yards. Montreal outscored Winnipeg 20-7 in second half and held Bombers to 236 total yards in 27-17 win.

Calgary (1-0) @ Edmonton (0-1)- The geniuses who make the CFL schedule have two rematches in Week 2; not sure why they think that's a good idea. Anyway, Grey Cup champ Edmonton lost at Calgary last week 24-14, then fired one of their veteran defensive backs to shake things up. Stamps were just 18-33/198 passing last week in 24-14 home win over Eskimos- it was seven Edmonton TO's that doomed the champs. Ray was 33-44/393 passing in losing cause.

BC Lions (1-0) @ Saskatchewan (0-1) Highly touted Riders got butts kicked 45-28 at BC Place last week, as Dickenson was 30-39/378 passing and Lions forced two Rider turnovers. Scene switches to Taylor Field, where Saskatchewan has historically been much tougher team, but Joseph will have to do better than 18-36 passing. Last week's game was 31-10 BC at halftime, as hosts won despite running ball for just 29 yards whole game.

      Six-Pack for Friday
-- Future met the past Thursday night in Houston, with the future winning 4-2. Young Liriano is the real deal. Clemens wasn't bad, just not good enough.
-- Jose Reyes is the ninth Met to hit for the cycle; no Met pitcher has ever tossed a no-hitter.
-- I still consider Kareem Abdul-Jabbar greatest basketball player ever; they outlawed the dunk because of him; you could add up his high school and college losses, and not need your second hand.
-- Every pro baseball team should have Hat Day and Ball Day giveaways; the aluminum bat has made Bat Day giveaways obsolete. Fireworks Nights also draw well.
-- Milwaukee's bullpen has been stellar behind Capuano, allowing two runs in their last 20 IP behind the Brewer lefty.
-- Bad news for Montana Grizzlies, as coach Krystkowiak has left Missoula to become an assistant coach with the Bucks. Coach K is Griz alumnus who had brought Montana back to prominence in ever-changing Big Sky Conference.

Friday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but...........
        13) Giants are giving away Mr Potato Head replicas Sunday. Not sure why.

        12) NHL had more revenue than they thought they would, so salary cap goes up $5M a year next season. I need to find out if they have a salary floor as well. Every league with a salary cap should also have a salary floor.

        11) Atlanta Hawks' fans must have been thrilled to see Jason Terry, Boris Diaw play such big roles in the NBA playoffs; no wonder Hawks are one worst franchises in all of sports.

        10) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was top pick in the '69 draft by the Bucks, who had just finished their first season in NBA; the next year, the lost in Eastern Conference final, and the year after that, their third year in league, they won the NBA title. They haven't won since, partly because………

        9) On June 16, 1975, Bucks traded an unhappy Kareem, along with Walt Wesley, to Lakers, for Dave Meyers, Brian Winters Elmore Smith and Junior Bridgman. The franchises have gone in opposite directions ever since that day.

        8) Josh Howard's performance this spring will be the reason at least one NBA team picks a college kid over a foreigner, just like Lawrence Phillips' misbehavior was part of the reason Randy Moss slipped so far when he was drafted by the Vikings. Teams imitate.

        7) We don't like Larry Brown much here at the website; he made a derogatory comment about Lawrence Frank, one of our heroes, and he buried Darko Milicic on bench in Detroit, but still, the man is a good basketball coach. His tenure with the Knicks is the first time in his eleven coaching stops that he didn't have a winning record for the tenure.

        6) Five losing seasons in 34 years; not bad. So now, Isiah Thomas gets to wallow in the muck of a team that he put together. Let the countdown to his firing begin.

        5) And if Mr Dolan is smart (he isn't, at least not about basketball) Kiki Vandeweghe is first on his list to replace Isiah, when ax inevitably falls, hopefully sooner than later.

        4) Bruce Froemming is one baseball's most veteran umpires; he has done sixteen games behind plate this season; if you invested $100 in the favorite in all 16 games, you'd be down $1,275, a staggering amount.

        3) #125 on the PGA Tour money list is Jeff Gove, at $326,736; #126 is Kevin Sutherland, at $324,057. 39 players have made $1M+ plus so far this season.

        2) Welcome back Kotter!!! One of our favorites, Gabe Kaplan, Coach Greene from the great basketball movie Fast Break, has returned to network TV on CBS, doing color commentary for the poker tournament CBS is televising on Saturdays, thru July 22. The tourney features 21 players from 21 different countries, and was filmed in April

        1) Francisco Liriano was six months, 20 days old when Roger Clemens made his major league debut.
