        Six-Pack for Thursday
        Robert Person edition
-- he was last Phillies player, before Tuesday, to knock in seven runs in one game, doing it for the Phillies in an 18-3 win over the Expos on June 2, 2002. Person was a pitcher.
-- Person became the first pitcher ever to hit a grand slam and 3-run dinger in same game, and he narrowly missed another grand slam in third inning, whacking a long foul ball before striking out.
-- Person didn't allow an earned run in five innings on the mound. Phillies scored ten runs in first inning, and led 17-1 in the fifth; reliever Bruce Chen gave up nine runs in 2.1 IP. -- Odd that on June 2, it was just his first win of year in season that saw him go 4-5, 5.44. He actually had a 38-24 record in 3+ seasons with Phillies, and finished career with a 51-42 career mark, allowing less than a hit per inning
-- He was 2-24 for the entire '02 season, so those two taters were his only hits the whole year. His seven RBI that day were the last of his career; he was a career .117 hitter, with 16 RBI in 214 career at-bats.
-- Person was picked by Marlins in their expansion draft, and was involved in four 1-on-1 trades: for John Olerud, Paul Spoljaric and two guys who never made it, Grady Hall and Steve Long, but Olerud was a real good hitter.

Thursday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but..................
          13) Thanks to the fine humans at USA Today Sports Weekly for including run support for starting pitchers each week. The five pitchers in big leagues, with minimum of ten starts as of Monday night, who have gotten most run support this year: 1- Byrd 7.36; 2- Madson, 7.00; 3- RJohnson 6.93;
4- Vazquez 6.54 (before the 20 runs he got Tuesday) and
          5- Batista, Verlander, 6.21

          12) The five pitchers who have gotten least run support this season: 1- Hendrickson 2.82 (he got eight runs Tuesday though); 2- Chen 3.10; 3- Cook 3.29; 4- Francis 3.36; 5- Elarton 3.40. Funny how two Colorado pitchers are on the list.

          11) Not only does Chen get just 3.10 runs per start, it is 1.72 runs per start less than any of the other Baltimore starters.

          10) Chiefs' QB Trent Green was once released by BC Lions in the CFL. Whoops.

          9) June 21 birthdays: Meredith Baxter, Michael Gross played husband/wife on the old sitcom Family Ties; they were born on the same exact day, 59 years ago. Bernie Kopell, Doc from The Love Boat, is 73 today, as well, and an underrated funny man, Joe Flaherty, from Second City TV (65).

          8) Bronson Arroyo for Willy Mo Pena? Give the Reds' GM a raise. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are claiming hideous pitchers off of waivers, trying to catch lightning in a bottle.

          7) No matter how much ABC/ESPN tries to jam soccer down our throats, I care a lot more about who wins World Series of Poker than the World Cup.

          6) Colorado's Cory Sullivan had seven sacrifice bunts in two games June 14-15; he is thought to be the first person ever to do that. Elias Sports Bureau reports that Omar Vizquel is the active leader in sacrificies, with 212, 107 more than any other active position player (Jose Vizcaino, 105).

          5) How exactly do the last place Angels justify sending Jered Weaver (4-0, 1.37) to the minor leagues?

          4) Pat Riley is being hailed as a coaching genius today, but remember how he got his start in coaching? Because Jack McKinney fell off a bicycle.

          3) McKinney was head coach of the Lakers when he was seriously injured in a bike accident; assistant Paul Westhead was named his replacement; in turn, he rescued Riley from the radio booth to fill the assistant's chair.

          2) After the Lakers won a title in 1980, Magic Johnson got Westhead fired, Riley was named head coach, and the rest is glorious history. But all because a guy fell off a bike.

          1) Put a softball and a clipboard in your daughter's hands: the women's basketball coach at U of Iowa makes $293,000 a year; the freakin' softball coach is pulling in $114,000. Wow.
