2-0 yesterday, both on dogs, as I rode the Marlins yet again and battled for 17 innings as Oakland won its ninth in a row
1* Marlins +145
Keep pounding Florida. They have now won seven in a row and 17 of their last 23 as their young pitching staff continues to shut down opponents. And their best pitcher of all goes today. As I keep arguing, the best value in baseball is on bad, but hot, teams. Florida may not be as bad as we thought. They've now caught Atlanta and are only 3 1/2 games out of second place. Yet, they're being valued like they're the Royals. True, Halladay is pitching for the Blue Jays but Florida's Josh Johnson has been a better pitcher the last few weeks than Halladay. Johnson has allowed only one earned run in his last 13 innings and has a 1.36 ERA over his last five games and a 2.05 ERA for the season, one of the best in baseball. To get +145 on a team that should be favored is an absolute gift.
1* Padres +135
This is a play against Bartolo Colon. He's making his first major league start in two months and only went 4 2/3 in his minor league rehab start a few days ago. Even if he pitches well, he'll be probably be lifted after five innings. The Angels haven't scored more than four runs in their last seven games. Two of Chan Ho Park's last three outings were excellent. Padres 17-14 on the road, are only one game out of first and Angels are a rotten 16-19 at home.
