Friday's List of 13: Random thoughts as summer kicks in
            13) Esteban Loaiza was busted for DUI and going 120 at 3:30 am, 36 hours before he was starting vs Mariners. Good thing the A's gave him $21 million for three years. What a jerk- but because Harden is hurt and A's have no decent starters at the AAA level, Loaiza still pitches and he won Thursday, 9-6.

            12) Teams' websites are propaganda machines: A's site said this about the incident: "Loaiza was detained following traffic stop." I'll repeat myself: 36 hours before he was supposed to pitch, he was arrested for driving drunk and going 120 mph.

            11) Could a team void a guy's contract if he got injured doing something like that? It seems like they should be able to.

            10) After AJ Pierzynski got plunked twice Wednesday, Ozzie Guillen sent his worst pitcher in game; when the kid threw an inside pitch to Blalock, but got him out, instead of hitting him, Guillen ripped the kid out of game, and he was quickly on his way to the minor leagues. Very classy.

            9) Willie Randolph is working on three-year contract that nets him $625K a year; they better start renegotiating, because the price is going up every day. He's free agent after '07, but then again, Randolph would be stupid to leave this job- they're in garden spot to be a power for years.

            8) Sign of times: September 17, White Sox at A's; promotion is that fans get A's Poker Kit for coming to game. Imagine what former commish Bowie Kuhn must think about that?

            7) Angels have allowed 47 unearned runs, most in bigs and two more than they did all of last season.

            6) Nowitzki goes 2-for 14, Miami evens series and a victory parade being planned in Dallas looks like an albatross; is it so difficult to plan a parade that it can't wait until the Mavericks actually won the championship?

            5) Mark Cuban went on Letterman Wednesday wearing a #7 Steelers' jersey. Big Ben appears to have gotten lucky in the aftermath of the motorcycle accident- his jaw isn't wired shut.

            4) Political correctness has hit Texas-Oklahoma rivalry on the gridiron: what used to be the Red River Shootout is now the Red River Rivalry. Whatever.

            3) June 15 birthdays: Jim Belushi (51) Helen Hunt (42), and Ice Cube, who we never drink without (36).

            2) Rumor out of New Jersey is that Eli Manning is having his problems with Plaxico Burress. Jeremy Shockey showed up in Jersey with a shiner. NFC East is highly competitive division; are the Giants the most fragile of the four teams?

            1) Eagles are actually longest shot on board to win NFC East, which would tempt me to invest a little bit on them.
