    NBA Finals

Miami looked dead as doornail in fourth quarter Tuesday, but in great comeback, kept series within reach, now need home win in this game to even series. Heat needs more from their guards and Walker, who will get open shots because Dallas has to double down on Shaq. Mavs suffered first loss with Howard scoring 20 or more points; would think this series goes seven if Miami wins this game. Still firmly believe Dallas is better team, but my only question would be, do Dallas players think they're better team?

      Six-Pack for Thursday
-- Mets can print playoff tickets; they tore hearts out of the Phillies this week. Will be interesting to see if Mets will be aggressive in buying players before the trading deadline.
-- Saw four batters reach base after strikeouts last night; in one half-inning at Detroit, two Devil Rays fanned but got to first base safely. Tampa Bay still didn't score that inning.
-- Red Sox pitchers walked ten, struck out zero in 8-1 loss at Minnesota Wednesday. Not sure I've ever seen that before
-- Ichiro Suzuki is 8-22 this year (.364) when he falls behind 0-2 in the count. An amazing number.
-- Don't look now, but Astros been red-hot since Clemens made his first rehab start. Also, Bonds hit #717 late in the game Wednesday, a three-run poke off of Valverde.
-- How about a shorthanded goal in OT on road to get the Stanley Cup finals back to 3-2? Edmonton won't go away.

Thursday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but..............
        13) Insanity reigns in Charleston, where Cougars are firing hoop coach Tom Herrion, despite an 80-38 record in four years; he still has four years left on his contract and is owned $1 million, but he is history. You'd hope they have a good reason, other than Cougars' not being in the postseason the last three years. Very tough to follow a legend; in Charleston, coach John Kresse is a legend.

        12) Bad karma report; city of Dallas is planning victory parade for the Mavericks on June 20. Not so fast...........

        11) When we saw Indians lost 1-0 to Bronx Tuesday, we had to quickly look to see who plate ump was; not surprised to see Doug Eddings' name. Mr Eddings' average of 15.0 pitches per half inning is second-lowest in majors (Drake, 14.4).

        10) Half of the eight teams in College World Series are from the ACC.

        9) Diamondbacks cut Russ Ortiz, who will make $16 million from Arizona after this season, in addition to the $7M he makes this year. Since ripping the DBacks off by signing this contract, opponents have hit .324 against Ortiz (they hit .244 before).

        8) Kaz Matsui went 3-10 in first three games for the Rockies' AAA team. Shane Burroughs is hitting .218 for Durham Bulls.

        7) June 14 birthdays, folks who share their birthday with the Big Dawg and this website: Yasmine Bleeth (38), Steffi Graf (37), Donald Trump (60).

        6) Royals, in first sign that their new GM is trying desperately to avoid breaking '62 Mets record for losses in a season, sent cash to Pirates for AAA righthander Duckworth, who was 8-3 in minors, and has made 66 big league starts.

He's also 30 years old, but he might be Royals best pitcher, at least until Zack Greinke returns.

        5) The last 2+ seasons, Mariners are 53-83 (.390) vs divisional foes.

        4) Outfielders used to always have to be good hitters, but right now, according to espn.com, there are six big league teams whose combined OB% from their CF is under .300.

        3) Quick prediction: Jon Kitna, NFL Comeback Player of Year.

        2) In case you wondering, the Steelers' backup QB is Charlie Batch, with rookie Omar Jacobs behind him. I guarantee you Antwaan Randle-El could have played QB better than either of those two guys.

        1) Stat note that only a pharmacist could love: In his career, Barry Bonds was 0-7 vs Jason Grimsley.
