Edmonton kept series alive with ugly game-winning goal in win Saturday, but win is a win, and home side is now 3-0 in series, as Oilers go for equalizer here. Edmonton is 1-18 on power play in series, Carolina 4-20. Backup goalie Markkonen stopped all but one of 25 shots. Peka was 14-6 on faceoffs; with Oilers having last change at home, thats huge. Still, they need this win to get series to best-of-3; Oilers been outscored 7-2 in third period so far in series. Hurricanes lost four of last five road games.

      Six-Pack for Monday
-- Hard to get interested in NBA Finals until Miami shows it has capability to even stay in a game, much less win one.
-- Shaq had five points; Heat can talk all the talk they want about toughness, but they need 3rd scorer, not toughness.
-- Congrats to Coach Hohensee, Mike Ditka and Chicago's Rush after they completed the greatest Cinderella run ever in pro football, winning Arena Bowl XX 69-61 over favored Orlando-- Rush was 4-8 at one point, played nine of its last eleven games on road, including last six in row. Not often a championship team finishes with an 11-9 record.
-- Why didn't NBC televise every game of the Stanley Cup finals? Finals games should be treated with respect and put on national TV. OLN tries hard, but where the hell is it?
-- Remember to log on here every day, starting in mid-July, for horse racing analysis from Saratoga. Capper Zeke nailed the exacta, DDLohaus had $20 on the winner Saturday in a very exciting Belmont Stakes.
-- Arizona's week from hell finished with a 15-2 beating by the Mets. This time last week, DBacks came home after big 4-game sweep in Atlanta, then went 0-7 vs Phillies, Mets, and thats the least of their problems.

Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up the sports weekend.......
        13) I wonder if pro athletes hate fantasy sports; I mean, there is lot of money at stake in some of these leagues, and I'm sure athletes hear about it when they're in slumps.

        12) Then again, I remember reading last year that Adam Dunn was in four fantasy football leagues, so maybe not.

        11) Washington Nationals let it be known that that only two untouchables on roster are 3B Zimmerman and P Patterson, who is currently injured. They have some veteran guys, and could be major trading players in late July.

        10) Cubs better be careful with Carlos Zambrano; in last six starts, he threw 122+ pitches four times, and has to throw less than 101 in any start this season. They don't need another P to go down, especially Zambrano.

        9) I think the home run hitting contest has hurt All-Star Game; the Monday stuff noe overshadows the actual game.

        8) Before I start ranting too much, let me re-state that stupid isn't the right word to describe having the All-Star Game have actual meaning. Home field in World Series should go to the league that wins interleague play each season. Enough said.

        7) We've started our college football research, and we note that Toledo's last three games are all on Tuesday nights- they also have a Thursday and a Friday game. Anything for TV.

        6) Miami Heat trainer Ron Culp was Portland's trainer when they won the NBA title with Bill Walton in 1977. He was also the first trainer for the expansion Cleveland Cavaliers.

        5) Mets outscored Arizona 37-9 this weekend, and have now won ten in row in the desert, eqaulling franchise record for a winning streak at one visiting park (Cincinnati, 1985-86).

        4) When an NBA player gets a technical foul, it should also be a personal foul, like in college. It would reduce bitching.

        3) NBA has a problem that is no one's fault, but the western teams are so much better than the eastern ones, the Finals are not much fun to watch. I mean, does anyone think Miami is a better team than the Suns?

        2) Hot rumor in Pittsburgh, either that or wishful thinking, is that Pittsburgh native Mark Cuban wants to buy the Pirates.

        1) Laugh at Cuban if you will, but in the 90's, before he owned the Mavericks, they lost 50+ games seven out of ten years. They're a state-of-the-art franchise right now.
