I have finally stopped cursing the Milwaukee Brewers franchise long enough to pull myself together and post my picks for Day 2 of the World Cup. Day 1 got off to a great start with the Germans and Ticos going over the number easily, but ended on a sour note thanks to a gutless effort from Poland. Let's hope for a winning Day 2.
World Cup Record: 1-1-0 (0.00 units)
6/10
Game 3: England -1 (+119) vs. Paraguay 1*
I expect England to come out and play very well in their World Cup debut. They are as talented as any team this side of Brazil and are capable of big things in this tournament. Parguay has historically been very tough defensively, but they no longer feature Jose Luis Chilavert, who was arguably the world's best goalkeeper of the past decade, and they will miss him against a loaded England side.
Game 4: Trinidad & Tobago vs. Sweden OVER 2.5 (-127) 3***
The Soca Warriors were the last team to qualify for Germany 2006 and they will have their hands full against a solid Sweden side. T&T has several capable strikers but is poor defensively, so we could see a high scoring game reminiscent of Germany-Costa Rica in this one.
Game 5: Argentina vs. Ivory Coast OVER 2 (-147) 2**
I hate to lay all this juice but I think the OVER is a really solid play in this game. Ivory Coast is solid defensively but they will have trouble containing an extremely talented Argentina side. They also happen to be very talented up front and we could see another high scoring affair in this one. I'm willing to lay the vig here because I think this is a really strong play.
Good luck and enjoy the Cup.
